This course is designed to develop students’ understanding in the concept of language testing by introduced the basic principles of language testing. This course consists of theory and practice about the concepts and principles of language testing, which include the constructing, scoring, and interpreting the test results. The students will be presented with the kinds of test which consist of essay test type and objective test type which will be implemented in testing English skills that cover speaking skill, reading skill, writing skill and listening skill, as well as the language component, namely grammar and vocabulary. The students also will analyze the validity and reliability of test items. The students will try to deepen and broaden their understanding about the topics and share them with their peers through classroom presentation. In addition, the students will also be required to design and construct a test, try it out and analyze it using relevant procedures. Evaluation will be based on students’ classroom performance, mid-term exam, and final exam. While individual performances are noted, pair and group works should be encouraged.
